april 28: st. louis marie de montfort

today may be the feast of st. louis de montfort, but i’m posting assisi pictures. i just miss it. i miss it all. the travels, the languages, the strange places, the sweet people, the silence, the thinking, the photos. i miss being mystified by my surroundings everyday. wanting to preserve what i saw and felt on film.

i feel sort of bad about this, but i am just really done with a lot of things this semester. its been a strange one. full of blessings, to be sure, but i almost feel as though i’ve lost a sense of self along the way.

i want to say that i’m ready for the next thing. the post-university adventure of real life. but i don’t want to sound ungrateful for what i have, the lovely friends and fun times.

what i need to be focusing on today: isaiah 65:17-25—new creation—my principles of biblical studies paper.

what i am thinking about: studying in the cozy library in the kartause, cinnamon/hot chocolate coffee, walking to the spar, listening to norah jones on my bed and coloring pictures…gaming.

alright, brain, lets focus! my laundry must be done by now…guess i’d better head to the library.

peace and blessings, world.

p.s. molly & nick, i hope your wedding is beautiful and perfect, and that your marriage is forever blessed!

march 2: feelin’ quote-y

from one of my favorite psalms—65:9-13

“You visit the earth and water it, you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. You crown the year with your bounty; the tracks of your chariot overflow with richness, the pastures of the wilderness drip, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.”

so, so beautiful! praise God!

february 29: sister, sister

i have been blessed with a wonderful, caring, beautiful big sister who knows (and still loves) crazy me. praise God.

this dear sister of mine sent me a package for my birthday, and i just got it today. it was chock full of all kinds of fun things…check it out!

she’s a dear heart and a beautiful soul.

speaking of sisters, sisterhood is something that i’ve really learned to seek out and cherish over the past couple years. having really solid girlfriends rooted in Christ that draw you closer to Him and his Blessed Mother is invaluable to me. i was blessed to have an impromptu coffee date with a dear friend that i went on mission with last year, today. i love all my sisters, biological or not. they help me like no other to see where i need to grow, and they teach me how to love.

have a blessed day!

my birthday was a couple days ago. the big 2-1. it was a great day, filled with household sisters, priceless friends, decent food, great cake, lovely gifts, and…praying morning prayer with my roommate at 2pm. the reading for morning prayer was the. best. so appropriate to a birthday during lent. here it is:

“Today is holy to the Lord your God. Do not be sad, and do not weep; for today is holy to our Lord. Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength!” — Nehemiah 8:9, 10

our household retreat was this weekend, and we really focused on scripture, and how we need to study and get to know the Word of God in order to know the Lord and grow closer to Him. i really do love praying with scripture, and i wish that Catholic catechesis did a better job instilling a love for and knowledge of the Bible in Catholic youth. oh well, i guess there’s no better time to start than now.

anyways, i really liked that quote, and i want to take it to heart. i feel like it was the reading on my birthday for a reason. like a little love note from the Lord my God.

p.s. pics are from early to mid october, in austria.

pace et bene

february 15: again

“Enemy-occupied territory—that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed…and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage. When you go to church you are really listening-in to the secret wireless from our friends: that is why the enemy is so anxious to prevent us from going. He does it by playing on our conceit and laziness and intellectual snobbery.”

— C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

oh c.s. lewis, you are the best.

“Without self-knowledge you have no root in yourselves personally; you may endure for a time, but under affliction or persecution your faith will not last. This is why many in this age (and in every age) become infidels, heretics, schismatics, disloyal dispisers of the Church. They cast off the form of truth, because it never has been to them more than a form. They endure not, because they never have tasted that the Lord is gracious; and they never have had experience of his power and love, because they have never known their own weakness and need.”

— Blessed John Henry Newman
